COMPRESSPORT®, Skyrunner® World Series partner, kicked off the season at the first events on the Spanish island of La Palma at the legendary Transvulcania Ultramarathon and the new Vertical Kilometer®.

The event attracts the world’s best ultrarunners and, among them, Spaniards Emma Roca, Jordi Bes and Pablo Villa and German Florian Neuschwander.

Once again, the ever-consistent Emma Roca produced a quality performance running a perfectly paced race. Roca started conservatively and moved up the field as the competition suffered in the heat and the demanding terrain of the La Palma course. With a podium place in sight, Roca pushed on the final descent to Tazacorte and unfortunately picked up an injury. With pure grit and determination, Roca pushed to the line and crossed it in tears for a quality 4th place.

Jordi Bes, who placed 11th at the highly competitive Matterhorn Ultraks in 2013 and 7th at the 2012 Transvulcania, is no stranger to Skyrunning. Despite racing the most competitive field ever assembled on the island and battling against relentless heat, Bes finished an excellent 17th.  A performance that will no doubt be a little lower than his exacting standards demand.

Racing for the first time in a Skyrunning event, Florian Neuschwander found the Transvulcania experience a huge learning curve. Despite very fast marathon speed, Neuschwander found the technical trails of La Palma a real challenge. Post race he said, “I know what I need to do now. I wasn’t prepared for how difficult this trail would be.”

It’s a great start in the Skyrunner® World Series for COMPRESSPORT®; a brand with already nine world championship titles in other sports. Developing medically researched compression, they are at the forefront of fulfilling the needs of demanding athletes all over the world. The new TRAIL running line of products will enhance performance and improve recovery offering shorts, T-shirts, quad sleeves, R2 calf sleeves and socks specifically for trail running.

“We respond to the problems that athletes face daily. Whether to improve performance, enhance recovery or to help them in their everyday life”, says Jordi Solé, managing director of COMPRESSPORT® International.

Next race on the Skyrunner® World Series is the legendary, Zegama-Aizkorri and anticipation is already building at the opportunity to see COMPRESSPORT® athlete, Marco De Gasperi race against Transvulcania, 1st and 2nd, Luis Alberto Hernando and Kilian Jornet.
