SWS – Dolomites SkyRace® - a dazzler

Emilie ForsbergA hugely successful day at the Dolomites SkyRace® - new men’s and women’s records, new nations on the podium.  Kiian the king slashes the long-standing course record in 2h01’52”, Romenian Ionut Zinca was second in 2h06’29” and Mitjia Coswelli from Slovenia, a close third 17 seconds later.

Dai Matsumoto (Japan)The first race of this weekend’s intensive World Series programme climbed a vertical kilometre skywards in the Italian Dolomites this morning.  The unforgiving ascent had Nejc Kuhar from Slovenia, first in 33’33”, Antonio Padua from Columbia, second in 33’52” and Spain’s Kilian Jornet, third in 34’03”.

Skyrunners worldwide celebrated their own games today with the final events of the 2012 SkyGames®.  Six skyrunning disciplines stretching over two weekends had 1,300 participants and twenty nations competing for the forty medals and 14 world titles at stake.

SkyGames® - Spain, Italy, France head medal list

The SkyGames® opening events kicked off Saturday with the Vertical Kilometer World Champion titles and, as predicted, Spain took the day.  Three-times skyrunning world champion AgustÍ Roc, 40, came out of semi-retirement and, triumphant,  like Rocky Balboa, climbed back on the top of the podium with a gold for the 1,000 metre Vertical Kilometer.

Greece goes Vertical - Zemmer and Orgué winners

Winner Laura OrgueThe Skyrunner® Vertical Series’ second race graced the heights above Athens and the Corinthian Gulf where Italian Urban Zemmer and Spaniard Laura Orgué topped the podium. Their respective times for Sunday’s short, sharp Gerania Vertical Kilometer® were 43’24” and 53’24”.
