2025 Masters Skyrunning World Championships

October 3-5, 2025 – Karlovo, Bulgaria

The third Masters Skyrunning World Championships will take place in Karlovo, Bulgaria at the Balkaniada Sky Race on October 3-5, 2025.

Four age categories will compete in the VERTICAL, SKY and SKYULTRA disciplines for the 75 medals at stake for individual and team titles.

October 3, 2025 – Balkaniada Vertical – VERTICAL – 5.2 km long with 1,131m vertical climb

October 4, 2025 – Balkaniada SkyUltra – SKYULTRA – 59 km long with 4,100m vertical climb

October 5, 2025 – Balkaniada Sky – SKY – 32 km long with 2,400m vertical climb

Age categories

The 2024 Masters Skyrunning World Championships categories are four:

  • Over 40 (40 to 44 years): born from January 1, 1981 to December 31, 1985
  • Over 45 (45 to 49 years): born from January 1, 1976 to December 31, 1980
  • Over 50 (50 to 54 years): born from January 1, 1971 to December 31, 1975
  • Over 55 (55 or more years): born before December 31, 1970

Regulations

  • The 2025 Masters Skyrunning World Championships are open.
  • Only athletes selected by the respective Member are counted for the Team ranking.
  • Every National Member can present up to 6 athletes per age category, with maximum four athletes of the same gender. Possible maximum distributions are: 4M+2W or 3M+3W or 2M+4W.
  • Organisers must offer a minimum of two free entries for every official country represented.

Details

  1. The third edition of the Masters Skyrunning World Championships will be held in Bulgaria, on October 3-5, 2025 in Karlovo.
  2. National teams must communicate their official participation and the number of athletes divided by category by July 5, 2025.
  3. National teams must communicate the names of the athletes by September 5, 2025.
  4. The VERTICAL race will be held on Friday, October 3. The race may have a mass start.
  5. The SKYULTRA race will be held on Saturday, October 4. The race will have a mass start.
  6. The SKY race will be held on Sunday, October 5. The race will have a mass start.
  7. Medals (gold, silver and bronze) will be awarded to the top three women and men of each age category in each race.
  8. The Team Ranking is based on the individual points accrued by the top four athletes – at least one per gender – in each age category.
  9. Other information regarding opening and closing ceremonies, doping controls, pasta parties and all the other activities will be communicated at a later date.

Bulgarian Skyrunning Federation, the ISF member for Bulgaria, will sanction the events and oversee them with their referees.
